World's 5 Most Expensive Wines

Just the mention of wine is enough to trigger a trip to the land of bliss. The more expensive the wine, the better it tastes. Wine is considered to be one of the most lavish drinks. For some people, collecting wine is a passion and there are a few varieties of wine in the world which only the elites can afford and the commoners can just dream about. As Easter is approaching, it is time to celebrate with wine and below listed are the world’s most expensive wines -
5) Chateau d’Yquem 1787:
Price: $100,000
Wine Year: 1787
This vintage Chateau d’Yquem 1787 is the most expensive bottle of white wine in the world. Usually, red wine costs more than white wine but this rare vintage was sold at a higher price in an auction. This exclusive vintage bottle was bought by a U.S based fine-wine collector for $100,000. London-based antique wine company has sold this vintage Sauternes from Chateau Yquem. This sweet wine takes centuries to mature.
History- This wine fetched high value because of its rich history as it was born during the time when the first steam engine was being made by James Watt. The grapes were harvested for this wine when George III was the king of England. Also George Washington was the president of the U.S back then.
4) 1945 Romanee Conti:

Wine year- 1945
The 1945 Romanee Conti is one of the most expensive wines sold at Christie’s wine auction in Geneva.  This vintage wine was made during World War II and only 600 bottles were produced. This rare bottle of wine has fetched a striking amount at the auction and the bidder is a wine collector from U.S, who paid $123,900 for one single bottle.
History- 1945 Romanee Conti was produced during World War II, before the outburst of phylloxera.
3) Chateau Lafitte 1787:
Price: $160,000
Wine year: 1787
Chateau Lafitte 1787 is one of the most expensive wines for which Malcolm Forbes, the famous publisher of Forbes Magazine, paid $ 160,000 at an auction, which took place in 1985. This wine bottle was originally bought by Thomas Jefferson in France, which was later sold in London as Thomson Jefferson’s collection. Moreover, in today’s date, the price of the bottle would be around $ 315,000, which was $ 160,000 at that time. This wine is so very old that it is not drinkable anymore yet, it is one of the most valuable wine collections.
History- This wine bottle has the initials ‘ThJ,’ as it belonged to the late president Thomas Jefferson. This bottle of wine was a part of Jefferson’s collection of wine. However, many are skeptical whether this bottle actually belonged to him or not.

2) Shipwrecked 1907 Heidsieck:
Price: $275,000
Wine year: 1907
‘Old is Gold’ certainly fits into this context. This 100 year old Shipwrecked 1907 Heidsieck wine is one of the world’s most expensive wines. The history behind this wine is that in 1916, nearly 3000 bottles of 1907 Heidsieck wine were being sent to the officers of Tsar Nicholas II via sea. During transportation, the ship sank and these 3000 bottles of Heidsieck wine got lost in the sea, which was later found by a ship driver in 1997. Finally, this wine is served to the Russian elites and wealthy guest at the Ritz-Carlton hotel, Moscow. Each of this wine bottle cost around $275,000.
History- This wine was discovered in 1997, these limited bottles of wine were lost in the sea during shipment in 1916.

1) 1992 Screaming Eagle Wine:
Price: $500,000
Wine year: 1992
1992 Screaming Eagle wine was bought by Chase Bailey, an Executive of Cisco System, at a charity auction in the Napa Valley. The most attractive feature of this vintage wine is its look, which is an opaque purple color bottle with rich fruity flavors inside. It is said that the fruity flavor of the wine stays for a long time on the taste buds. This expensive wine bottle was sold at an auction that fetched around $500,000.
